self portrait -- NYC summer
"Before you able to draw, you have to learn to see..."
I am back from my artist date to the big city. Overwhelmed and saturated with eye candy treats until my brain hurt! Have you had moments like that? Where you just want to see and do it all and then you have to close your eyes tightly (or put something over your head) because you have serious-sensory-overload?

New York has a passionate hold on my heart.
I have been many times for all different reasons and each trip is unique and life affirming. This time I planned to be immersed in whatever the day brought. No big plans, except to eat (delicious food I didn't have to make, lol!), allowing time for all kinds of artistic captures...photographs, pen and ink, watercolors, and bitty sketches. I can't imagine a better way to take in the city -- every sense is heightened when you are in that seeking space. You loose track of time and become immersed in peoples faces, bits of conversation, waves of heat and smells, and the busy pace of this wild place.
Everything seems to buzz~

Artist dates are imperative to our growth. Even if it is just a walk to the corner market, your inner artist loves to be invited! Make sure to quietly take in all the world is offering your creative spirit, God is in those holy details. Every artist date can be a treasured experience~
If you could have a blissful artist date all your own, where would you choose to go?
Where is your heart calling you?
Some place soothing-quiet -- a favorite hike or lunch at the park? To sit and watch the hummingbirds on an big porch swing?
Or some place bold and deliciously exciting like NYC?
They are all my favorites, too~
In His creative hands,
jj

Beautiful my friend. I Am so happy you were able to schedule an art date. Thank you for the reminder that even tho today looks nothing like I thought it would, even tho things are hard and I don't feel like I can get away, I have
ReplyDeleteBeen able to find moments to walk in the yard and find God there. You are a blessing.
Wow -- what an awesome place to go and just "disappear"! Love it!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos; what a wonderful artist date! I've been trying to have artist dates myself in my neighborhood, usually just with the camera on my phone. But I get to go paint in Italy at the beginning of October! And you know I will be filling up the memory card on my dslr!!!!
ReplyDeleteJunelle,
ReplyDeleteOur family vacation was to NYC this June. We spent 9 days there. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about when I can go back. I loved it. It was surprisingly hot when we went and with two children that part was not much fun, but WOW - I just fell in love with it. I am so happy that your artist date was to NYC. I may have to take one of my own there too. Glad you are back and that all went well.
Oh my Junelle... no place I'd rather go - I miss NY something terrible and I keep having imaginative conversations with DH about where we'd go if we were in NY. There's no place in the world that inspires me more! Full stop.
ReplyDeleteI miss it so much your images makes me want to cry.
Hugs - and thanks so much for bringing me there for brief moments :-)

ReplyDeleteI love NYC and would love to go back, this time with an eye for art inspiration! I went on a bike ride, down country roads, close to my house. (I'm a city girl, and there are still some farms and roads to ride) I took my camera, and want to sketch some of the things I saw today. Thanks to you Junelle, and the class I took, I am now seeing things a bit differently!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy NYC in the summer, but, oh my, in December it is truly amazing! Bryant Park is full of craft vendors and oh, so beautiful. All the lights, 5th Ave. decked out, Central Park, I could go on and on. I'm happy that you had such a terrific place to have an "art date".....glad your back to blogging, too!
ReplyDeletereally wish I could have met you! you are so darling. love your photos.
