art journal + sketch books

Art journals...sketch books...what is it I need?

For the upcoming workshop I have put a bitty video together -- a bunch of information about sketchbooks and art journaling books (10 minutes long).  If you already have yours picked out...YES!  Or if you have a sketch book or art journal you love...YES!!!

If not, this little video is just for you~

(You can click on this video -- the word "vimeo"-- to enlarge the screen.
It is also very bright ~ it is the snow coming down outside.)

I hope this helps you~

If you still have questions or concerns, leave a comment or email me~ me.junelle@gmail.com

Love & lambs (due to arrive in one more week!)

  1. LOL!! I was TOTALLY thinking Stephen King, because my husband reads those and we have lots of those hardbacks laying around. And then, I immediately thought, eeeww! I would want my art in those -- and then you said that a few minutes later! Funny! So -- do we need both a sketchbook AND and art journal?? Any idea when the complete list will be up on Christy's site?

  8. I am signing up for your class and very excited for it! Thank you for your insight on sketchbooks and art journals. I use a mix of different kinds myself but it's nice to see another perspective. The last one you shared (the one you are not sure where it's from) is one of my favorite finds. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby and they are made in India. They are perfect for sketching with watercolor and I carry one with me at all times.

I love your sheep too! My dream is to have a herd of my own one day.

  9. Aww, thanks so much for this cute little video. I found an antique book store this morning - no, I know - not exactly what I was looking for, but they had a basket with really cheap ones. Didn't find anything to begin with but a moment later the lady in the shop had added a gorgeous perfect size 60's childrens book with rhymes and songs and full of little sketches - several kitty ones too! Yes, hello sweet serendipity - hello art journal!!

  10. What a lovely video, and what a great idea for a journalling book! I am NOT adept at drawing or sketching, but I'm hoping to learn even the rudiments through this course. I'd love to add art and photos to my prayer journal...sometimes (well, a lot of times!) I struggle with what I want to write and what to pray for, so perhaps allowing myself the freedom to be goofy and messy and colourful will open my mind to what Jesus is trying to say to me!
Blessings to you Junelle, I am looking forward to 'meeting' you on line!

  11. Lots of great ideas for a journal. I have been saving a few books for this kind of thing. I have a questions on pastels. I do not have neocolor II, but I have wax pastels that are not water soluble. Will they work ok? If not what are the best colors to get? I am really looking forward to the start of the class. Jane

    1. Chantille~

I usually just put a thin layer of gesso in between the pages, it holds really well, just make sure to smooth them out the best you can! :)

  16. First, I just found your blog today!!!! I feel so blessed. I just signed up for the class today, too, and am so excited to get started. I haven't received any information back about how to find the actual class, but I'm sure it will be here soon. I love your sheep, both real and sketches. I love to sketch and do it on everything. I keep different sketch books everywhere. I loved how someone mentioned sketching in their prayer journal. I sketch during church and often end up with the sermon in pictures - amazing way to remember the high points. I then cut the pieces out and glue them into a sketch book. I loved learning today about using old books for sketchbooks and will be doing that too, and look forward to learning new techniques. See you in class!
